About this deal

Juniper and Bear have been brought up in a walled city, with nature barred from the built up area after an outbreak of a man-made disease. Not even a blade of grass can grow within the stones of the city. But Juniper and Bear remember the Wild and dream of escaping.

Penfold's prose is beautifully written, with wonderful descriptions which show the stark contrasts between the City and the Wild. I think the book is great for fans of The Hunger Games and Divergent, and The City's dystopian look at a potential future world is frightening. The initial familiar school setting instantly draws empathy from any reader who has ever felt isolated at school. pacing. I felt like this was quite a slow book. The chapters are short but the content is long. We were nearly halfway through the book before they even began their journey. I loved Ghost, who stays with Juniper and Bear throughout their journey and is a constant source of hope and comfort. She also symbolises the amazing relationship between humanity and the wild, how we need and rely on each other and the ways we can work together if we're paying attention.Juniper and Bear feel wild and isolated in the city and set out on a journey to escape to The Wild. The relationship between Juniper and Bear is wonderfully captured, and Juniper is fiercely protective of her little brother. Bear in turn, is completely dedicated to Juniper. I was particularly taken with their relationship with the lynx Ghost, who has to be my favourite character! This is definitely a book to read snuggled up with a warm and cosy cat! I also felt a personal connection to the story as a born Londoner who now lives in Cumbria. As much as I miss certain aspects of London, I remind myself how I used to feel returning there after visits to Cumbria. I used to miss the wide open skies and birds and green space so badly that it hurt. It’s another Bookwagon day in our house. The kids were so excited to get their latest books in the post. This is a fascinating premise. What if the cure for the planet is the near extinction of the human race? What would become of the world without humans in it? And what would become of the humans shut away from nature?

Nicola lives with h More Juniper and Bear were born in the WILD but for their own safety their parents decide to send them to the City where they grow up in a world protected from the virus but also devoid of nature. Food is artificial, books that refer to nature are burned and everyone is under the control of Portia Steel, the heartless controller of the soulless City. The deadly virus thrives in the land outside the city but with immunity Juniper and her brother can risk the journey, escape the City walls and return to their birthplace.Author Luke Palmer introduces his new book, Play (Firefly Press) about four boys growing up together, the challenges, the friendships, and what hap... Together the two children have to make the perilous journey out into the wild to search for their family and others like them. The wild is a beautiful place but it is also a brutal one. It is a place where survival plays out on a daily basis and every living thing is in some danger. Not to mention the drones that follow them from the city. With so much up against them, will they ever make their way home? Well the answers are just as fascinating. Most of the humans it seems readily accept this new way of life, and the story quite cleverly shows us how they are effectively indoctrinated and made to accept this as the new normal. Some of them just don't fit in though, they feel the need for the wild deep inside them. This is where Juniper and Bear, our main characters, come in. Author Guy Bass introduces SCRAP, about one robot who tried to protect the humans on his planet against an army of robots. Now the humans need his...

Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - When life inside the city threatens Juniper and Bear’s own lives, they must take action, and venture into the Wild to find their parents and their home. The side characters were also a hit for me. They provided extra layers to the story, and though not all were fully developed, I could still understand their personalities from their descriptions and behaviour. My favourite side character has to be a lynx cat called Ghost who really warmed my heart. I adored the strong connection between Juniper, Bear and Annie Rose, and you could really feel just how much they cared for one another. Content warnings include bullying, gun violence, injury and death of people and animals, and mention of mental health. A doomsday dystopian novel is not what I should be read this year. Or so, I thought. But it’s actually fun to do so - to realize that reality mirrors a book? ‘Where The World Turns Wild’ was a soothing adventure with two lovable characters called June and Bear.I liked the writing style. Nicola Penfold is very clear with her writing and her descriptions of nature are quite beautiful and vivid. The relationship between Juniper and Bear was really special. I loved their interactions and the fierce love they felt for each other. My own daughter is five, and it was emotional to imagine her undertaking Bear's journey. Juniper and her brother Bear are different, they were born in the wild and are immune to the virus. This makes them a target for the authorities, who want answers and makes them different to the other children.
