About this deal

Once I found out he was publishing a book, I knew I would have to read it, and I assumed I would enjoy it as much as I have his other exploits. Management has to create a climate where owning up to mistakes is permissible and colleagues have to agree, collectively, to cut each other some slack. Hadfield has done more than probably any astronaut since the Apollo missions to transform the image of space exploration .

Hadfield takes readers on a fascinating and exciting journey while offering insightful-if somewhat unconventional -- wisdom applicable to everyday life here on Earth. I also appreciated the writing about the impact his choice of career had on his family, it's covered in a powerful and reflective, but never sappy way. He came across as being so down-to-earth and approachable with his avuncular tone that I enjoyed listening to his narration and watching his videos. This wasn't the autobiography I expected, but the details on NASA are fascinating, and it is inspiring to listen to someone who aimed for the sky and made it.It was narrated brilliantly by the author, full of warmth, full of humour, full of wanting to share with us all. Rehearsing for catastrophe has made me positive that I have the problem-solving skills to deal with tough situations and come out the other side smiling. Sure it's cool and stuff that he's an astronaut but at the end of the day it's just a job and your paid to do it. He does tell us a great deal but, like Horizon programmes, it could all have been said in less time. There was a lot of explanation of the crafts and procedures they do while on board, but it was actually fascinating rather than laborious to read about.

I ran through my checklists, copied and pasted the review, and thinking of my wife and children who had taken jobs to support this review, uploaded. After about two and a half hours it’s time: they turn the ship tail-first and set up for deorbit burn. The world was rolling by underneath, every place I’d read about or dreamed of visiting streaming past.He is also the author of You Are Here , a book of breathtaking photos taken from space, and The Darkest Dark – his first ever children's picture book. During this time he has broken into a Space Station with a Swiss army knife, disposed of a live snake while piloting a plane, been temporarily blinded while clinging to the exterior of an orbiting spacecraft, and become a YouTube sensation with his performance of David Bowie's ‘Space Oddity' in space. As an disabled artist who had the privilege of being asked to speak at NASA Houston (on ‘that’ stage, Ie that one sees press conferences and award ceremonies being delivered from! What follows is a wild 54-minute tumble to Earth that feels more or less like 15 explosions followed by a car crash.
